Despite torture and violence at the hands of her husband and in-laws, she has fought to save her twin daughters from being selectively aborted. In 2008, Mitu Khurana became the first woman in India to file a case against her husband and in laws under this act. Bundelkhand is facing huge scarcity of water despite the presence of many rivers. The villagers are forced to live in poor condition due to the water crisis. It sometimes triggers caste conflict also. Situation in Hariraypur of Mahoba block in Jalaun is more severe. Ms. Gyanvati (in this picture) from the same village says that there was 6 tube-well in the village to quench thirst of villagers, but only one tube well is working. There are 27 Dalit families in the village are all dependent on this ‘only’ tube-well. To make the situation worse specially for Dalits, this only tube-well is situated in the area dominated by so called upper caste. To access this tube-well, sometimes Dalit families have to wait even 4 hours daily. This crisis ultimately impacts on the education of Dalit children, absence of drinking water facilities is forcing Dalit children to drop out of school.
Ghomo Devi, the 80 year old Dalit woman from Kunder Village in Sirmaur District of Himachal Pradesh, hopes that you can make her dream come true to enter the village temple. She being a Dalit is not allowed near it. Dalits are more oppressed and deprived sections of society in the ambit of Kunder village and whole Sirmaur district, they are exploited at all level. Dalits are more marginalised and discriminated section educationally, politically, culturally, economically and socially. Dalits want to overcome from all of these social evils but they do not have adequate resources to change the system
