Bundelkhand is facing huge scarcity of water despite the presence of many rivers. The villagers are forced to live in poor condition due to the water crisis. It sometimes triggers caste conflict also. Situation in Hariraypur of Mahoba block in Jalaun is more severe. Ms. Gyanvati (in this picture) from the same village says that there was 6 tube-well in the village to quench thirst of villagers, but only one tube well is working. There are 27 Dalit families in the village are all dependent on this ‘only’ tube-well. To make the situation worse specially for Dalits, this only tube-well is situated in the area dominated by so called upper caste. To access this tube-well, sometimes Dalit families have to wait even 4 hours daily. This crisis ultimately impacts on the education of Dalit children, absence of drinking water facilities is forcing Dalit children to drop out of school.
